What is herpes?

Herpes is a common viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). It can cause oral outbreaks (cold sores) or genital outbreaks (genital herpes). While it’s not curable, symptoms can often be managed with antiviral medication and lifestyle strategies.

What’s the difference between herpes and genital herpes?

“Herpes” refers to infections caused by HSV-1 or HSV-2. Genital herpes specifically refers to outbreaks that occur in the genital area, often caused by HSV-2 but sometimes HSV-1.

How is herpes contracted?

HSV-1 is primarily spread through oral contact—commonly via kissing, sharing utensils, or oral-genital contact. It often causes cold sores around the mouth, but can also lead to genital infections.

HSV-2 is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and is the most common cause of genital herpes. It spreads via skin-to-skin contact during vaginal, anal, or oral sex.

Can I request herpes treatment online in Australia?

Yes. InstantScripts allows you to request herpes treatment online through a secure, doctor-led consultation. If appropriate, your doctor may provide a prescription for oral or genital herpes treatment.

Do I need to speak to a doctor every time I request a script?

Your first consultation will be with a doctor. For ongoing management, you may be able to request repeat scripts—though some situations may require a follow-up consultation.

Once approved, can my prescription be sent to a pharmacy or delivered discreetly?

If approved, you can receive your prescription for herpes medication online via SMS/email or delivered discreetly to your door.
